
Vegetable and Hamburger Chowder
Ingredients
- 1/4 lb salt pork or bacon
- 1 lb hamburger
- 2 Carrots chopped
- 1/2 C diced celery
- 1 med Onion chopped
- 2 C cooked tomatoes
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp pepper
- 1/4 C rice or barley
- 1 1/2 qts boiling water
- 2 C cubed potatoes
Instructions

Fry salt pork until browned. When crisp remove pieces of pork and brown hamburger in fat; add carrots, celery, onion, tomatoes, salt, pepper, barley, pork and boiling water. Heat to boiling and simmer slowly 1 hour. Add potatoes and cook another hour or until potatoes are tender. Serve as a main dish for luncheon or supper. Serves 6 to 8.
